Simplify the Consumption of Persistent Volumes (PV) in Kubernetes
Persistent storage for stateful applications is a major inhibitor in the broad adoption of containers for the enterprise. NetApp was the first to offer a robust and fully supported open-source solution to address this gap and has since increased its investment and participation in the community and its partner ecosystem to shape the way containers approach data management.
Container technology is an essential piece of NetApp’s Data Fabric vision. Astra Trident enables customers to get the most out of their NetApp investment, simplifying the deployment of containers throughout the enterprise while protecting and managing data, wherever, whenever — across the fabric.
Astra Trident is a Container Storage Interface (CSI) compliant dynamic storage orchestrator that enables consumption and management of storage resources across all popular NetApp storage platforms. It natively integrates with Kubernetes to dynamically provision persistent volume requests on demand. Additionally, there is also a REST interface that can be used by any application to create and manage storage across the configured resources.
It is also a foundational technology for NetApp's Astra Control, which addresses your data protection, disaster recovery, portability, and migration use cases for Kubernetes workloads leveraging NetApp's industry-leading data management technology for snapshots, backups, replication, and cloning.
Features:
- Kubernetes and REST interface(s) for consuming storage resources
- Compatible with:
- ONTAP
- Element Software and NetApp HCI
- Cloud Volumes Services (AWS, GCP, Azure) - Create and provision against meta-classes of storage with common characteristics, providing abstracted pools of storage to the consumer
- Deploy as a standalone application to a physical/virtual host, as a container, or as a Kubernetes pod
Ensuring fair usage of parallel file systems in Kubernetes using BeeGFS quotas
In our version 1.1.0 introductory post, we described how the new per Storage Class ownership and permissions configuration feature works in the BeeGFS CSI driver. While this feature is certainly useful on its own, one of its primary motivations was enabling BeeGFS...
